Frequently Asked Questions

  • Travel in Africa is incredibly rewarding, but it’s also complex and hard to navigate, with limited reliable resources online. Working with a specialist gives you access to expert guidance, vetted partners, and experiences that aren’t often accessible through standard booking channels. A travel specialist ensures your trip is thoughtfully designed around your preferences and budget and handles all the complex logistics and coordination on your behalf.

  • No! Booking with us gives you access to the same rates, or often times better rates than those available online, including exclusive offers that aren’t publicly advertised.

Since we are Africa specialists, rather than global agents, we work closely with lodges and partners who compensate us through much higher industry commission. Given how this is structured, we do not charge additional costs or markups for our services, in contrast to how agents focused on other parts of the world are required or choose to do.

  • We do not charge any added fees to work with us. Following an initial introductory call, where we confirm we’re a good mutual fit, we do require a $1,000 engagement fee to proceed with the planning process. This fee is non-refundable, but is credited toward your final trip balance.

For clients who would like additional support during their time in Cape Town and the winelands, we also offer optional daily planning assistance outside of pre-arranged activities. This service is charged separately, as it falls outside our commission-based model and requires additional time and coordination.

  • The key difference is in the relationships -  both with our clients and with our industry partners.

With our clients, our focus is on quality not quantity - we actually cap the number of trips we plan each year so we can give each one the attention deserved. Instead of pre-set packages or high-volume booking systems, we take a highly collaborative approach that allows us to design each itinerary according to your individual priorities and preferences.

Meanwhile, we’ve spent years building a trusted network of long-standing relationships with the people behind the destinations. Our founding team is constantly in direct contact with owners and managers. This allows us to go the extra mile, unlocking exceptional experiences and small details that aren’t widely available otherwise.

Together, this results in a more seamless, considered experience that feels carefully designed around you from start to finish.

  • We specialize in booking the entire continent of Africa as well as Antarctica and surrounding islands.

  • We are happy to book any regional flights within Africa. However, we do not book international flights to and from your starting and ending location. We’ve found it is in our clients’ best interest to manage this directly, particularly as many prefer to use airline points, maintain control over their bookings, or deal directly with airlines in the event of schedule changes or disruptions. That said, we have extensive experience flying internationally ourselves and can advise on the best routes, connections, and timing to align with your itinerary.

  • We do not require travel insurance when booking with us, but we strongly recommend it to ensure peace of mind when traveling. We work with a preferred partner, Redpoint Insurance Protection, who offer comprehensive coverage options for a wide range of travel needs. Upon making your initial deposit, we will share more information on how to obtain a quote with them as well as other providers, and you are also welcome to explore other providers if you prefer.

  • If you need to cancel your trip, this must be done in writing via email to Indalo, and will take effect from the date it is received. All cancellations are subject to our terms and conditions

The key takeaways are that your engagement fee and initial deposit are non-refundable. If you cancel more than 120 days before departure, you will be liable for the greater of your deposit or 30% of the total trip cost. If you cancel within 120 days of departure, the full cost of your trip will remain due.

We strongly recommend that you arrange adequate travel insurance at the time of booking, including coverage for cancellation or loss of deposit where possible. Many policies are dependent on specific circumstances, however some providers also offer an optional “Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR)” upgrade, which typically must be purchased within 15-21 days of your initial deposit to be eligible.

  • In Xhosa, one of the most commonly used languages in South Africa, Indalo means nature or the natural world.
